in the conference this morning the guy kept switching between english and italian mid sentence and I was lowkey getting whiplash but ironically I understood everything he was saying language wise but scientifically I was LOST bc he was a mineralogist and my geochemist ass is absolutely not. my kell however IS a mineralogist and so I will make it HIS PROBLEM when he wakes up and will pester him with mineral questions

italians switching between languages is so real (a lot of people aren't fluent in english). it also happens to me, the english language specialist... lol it is mandatory that I speak english while I teach kids, so they assume/believe I'm a native but when I'm not in the mood you'll see me explaining or saying something random and put an "ALLORA SI VA BENE'" at the end of my speech. I hope my students don't notice lol

thank you<3!! its the European Geosciences Union thats held in Vienna ever year and I love it so much bc its honestly such a global conference (despite the name) and its so much fun and I love being around so many languages (though the official conference language is english)
