Actually more chill than I expected. It probs won't be a 4 or 5 star because I can't meaningfully engage with media about child sexual abuse whilst recovering from a mental health crisis about the abuse I faced...but at least I am finally reading THE Toni Morrison after borrowing n returning her books unread from the library for years.

Reading a book about Black girlhood whilst having an existential crisis about how I, as a Black girl, did not have a childhood. 100% by accident too since I can't control when my library's reserves come in.

it gets a lot less chill closer to the end. i read this not long ago and thought it was brilliant and incredibly important, but definitely one of the most disturbing books i had assigned to me in college. seems like you know what’s coming but i figured i’d comment anyway.

while her work can be a bit heavy both thematically and intellectually, i’m glad you’re reading more morrison! the class i took on her during the fall 2024 semester was one of my favorite courses i’ve ever taken.
