Sir David Attenborough turns 100 today! In his honor, yet another species (this time a wasp) was named after him (he has about 50 organisms, some buildings and boats named after him already).

All over the world, ...

Trish ... people are celebrating by watching his programmes, creating images of him in the sand, recording video messages for him, reading his books and more. We basically all grew up with his voice explaining the wonders of the natural world to us.

What is your favorite documentary of his? Have you read any of his books?

Trish I have almost all his documentaries on DVD or BluRay and I never tire of watching them. But I also have many of his books:

Yep, you COULD call me a fangirl. *lol* There is just something about his child-like wonder and enthusiasm for everything but rats (if you know, you know *lol*), and his voice is so utterly soothing!

Trish

Since many don't know: he's not just the one making the most and most successful documentaries - he INVENTED them. He started with a few caged animals in a studio but soon was fed up with that and suggested traveling to the animals in their natural habitats instead.

Fun fact: the man has also won awards for productions in every kind of television in existence since he was born (b/w, colour, 3D, 4k etc.).

Fun fact II: He is the reason modern tennis balls are neon yellow. Before, they were white, but when colour TV became a thing, the balls could barely be seen and HE suggested a stark color like neon yellow.

Fun fact III: For the few people reaching 100 years of age and more, LEGO makes special boxes where the age recommendation is changed. Sir Attenborough seems have received one as well.
