This needed an editor so bad. Even if you're publishing through a small/independent press, which I think this is, and you can't afford a professional editor, pass a completed draft to 2 or 3 of your friends for at least some casual proofreading before you publish. Every time I get into this story, some stupid grammar/syntax mistake yoinks me right back out. eg, "like a flip had switched" come the fuck on.
