I have a few books open as I usually do, probably to the detriment of my appreciating any of them. The others are excellent so far as well but they will have to wait now, this is next level. I don’t think I’ve ever read a narrative voice like this one, the way it moves from immersion in the Victorian story to direct conversation with the reader and back again. This will be one to read slowly and savour.
