I think the fact that there's too many "bad guys" that we're going off on side quests for is another reason I'm annoyed.
Like, I thought "King" was the big bad guy and here we are fighting a bunch of unrelated people. THIS is exactly why these books are too long. Coulda been an email, not a 5 book series.

Okay, figured it out: these books don't hit because of all the random stupid shit that doesn't need to be included. Like not just about the spice, but they just had a photo shoot of the Basilisk as a tiny snake. Literally just because. Added nothing to this story.
