This second story seems to be about his frustration not being able to control other people. It's a losing battle, man, read some Marcus Aurelius

Also he's talking about this weird European thing where you can sit anywhere on the train unless someone specifically reserved their seat and then you have to move but you have no idea which seats are reserved or not and you just get to be surprised and inconvenienced

Are we supposed to find it charming how self-involved Sedaris is?
