Okay now I realize why the logic behind the chalk magic sounds so familiar. It’s the exact same reasoning Kuang had behind the silver magic in Babel. The idea that contradictions create room for a kind of energy that surpasses physical boundaries. Cool, but kind of lazy?

This book is very long. It’s good, I am just really having a hard time with it and I don’t know why. I kind of think it’s because nothing is really happening. They’re going through hell, but nothing is really coming from any of their actions. They haven’t gotten any closer to their goal, and it’s kind of starting to lose me.
