This is getting spicy. Fishy. I smell a smelly smell that smells.... smelly. People are scheming in this story behind the scenes. Mr. Skimpole is suspicious. How is it that he gets by in life without taking any responsibility for anything? How is it that he has everyone else pay for everything for him? He must have dirt on people in this story. But things are starting to come together, finally.

I'm liking this for a few reasons. 1- Esther being a female lead and 2- it being in large part in first person narration. I can stomach the sections that are in third person because I know more sections are coming with Esther's first person. Esther is so charming and a sweetheart.
