I continue to find this book a little confusing and difficult to follow. But still, I am absolutely obsessed. Incredible, incredible world building.

This book is fairly difficult to follow so far, but I'm hooked. The world building seems so good, and the setting is really intriguing.

Joris Please let me know what this is like. I'm about to finish the realm of the elderlings series and want to start this!

Matt It's very dense and a bit of a slow burn. It also just throws you into the world with little to no context for what's going on, but the context reveals itself bit by bit as the book goes on.

The world building is incredible. Things like the use of magic, different races, and all of the different factions are super unique and interesting. There is also a very helpful and comprehensive dramatis personae, and glossary in the back of the book. Which I'm trying to not depend on too much, because I like the mystery.

This book does suffer from a lot of typical debut novel foibles, but I know that the subsequent books improve in quality pretty drastically.

It's a large commitment, with 10 books in the mainline series, and there are a couple different spin-off series penned by a combination of Steven Erickson and his collaborator on the series (blanking on his name). But so far I'm enjoying this so much that I'm up for the commitment, which is rare for me.
