everything is so fucked up…

Driving is the best chapter so far, when Robert Caro breaks from pure chronological history to make a 30-page argument it hits like craaazzzyy. Especially since this is the first chapter to really properly deal with the implications of Robert Moses’ parks on black populations, I feel like I’m finally getting to the meat of the book. Also last sentence + page turn to part 5 gave me chills

In The Saddle is suuuuuch a good chapter lowkey… lowkey aspirational argumentative writing… but i haven’t even gotten to One Mile so i am prepared for it to be one-upped

tbh i guess i haven’t been consciously comparing the chapters as individual pieces of writing but i think that would be worthwhile to do. really like The Majesty of the Law and A Dream so far.

once it gets to robert moses actually running new york city i have to remember that the first ~300 pages are just preamble to the real substance of his career. thrilling!
