I am glad that all characters in this story serve a purpose. Rabbit hole following the name “Vlad” leads us to a cult people with the hidden disillusionment of being a vampire. Rich public figure, Bobby Acosta and his foreign wife Alana cannot be taken down from their pedestal and with their influence, frighten anyone who’s caught by cops. By their kidnapping of an 18 year-old Samantha, the story spirals.

Instead of cop trouble, this mystery is much more gripping. We tell the inner workings of a world new to the cops of Miami. Cannibals, body dysmorphia, drinking blood in punch, conspiracy against public figures, a new side of “Daddy Dexter”, and the return of Brian intruding into Dexters family life.

It starts with Dexter completely changing from killer to a caring fatherly figure. Now Brian enters the mix and create a tension of competition as well as negative influence for the kids. Though stressful, Brian serves a purpose by the end meanwhile still remaining mysterious.
Mixed reaction with the affair between Dexter and Samantha induced by ecstasy…
I quite enjoyed that the ending nearly had everyone killed and still left open for several questions. Bobby and Alana were ready to dig into Dexter, Deb (now pregnant), and Chutsky, and to the rescue a hooded Brian shoots both of them and disappears. Chutsky decides to go back with the final words tell “Deb I love her”. These types of stories I enjoy because I don’t want to know how it ends.
