This book is much more gripping. Lindsay’s best yet. We get classic Dexter murdering a criminal clown, getting caught, a killer in the background murdering people with a hammer, Deborah arresting the wrong man, Camilla a forensic coworker getting killed due to this, and lastly a equally psychotic observer of Dexter now trying to frame him and get him arrested.

I am glad that all characters in this story serve a purpose. Rabbit hole following the name “Vlad” leads us to a cult people with the hidden disillusionment of being a vampire. Rich public figure, Bobby Acosta and his foreign wife Alana cannot be taken down from their pedestal and with their influence, frighten anyone who’s caught by cops. By their kidnapping of an 18 year-old Samantha, the story spirals.

Instead of cop trouble, this mystery is much more gripping. We tell the inner workings of a world new to the cops of Miami. Cannibals, body dysmorphia, drinking blood in punch, conspiracy against public figures, a new side of “Daddy Dexter”, and the return of Brian intruding into Dexters family life.

The way feel that I’m being unfair to these books because of the show, the witness of Dexter doesn’t exist and constantly relies on other people to learn about his victims (or lack there of). Now that Deborah is in the hospital, Dexter relies on Kyle Chutsky to find his stalker that is trying to frame him for murder. Once again, Cody and Astor are in the crossfire. The messiness doesn’t work.

Dexter is married, his Dark Passenger has returned, but extracurricular activities are still on pause as Dexter continues to be detective’s assistant with the addition of being a Father.

With my last review, Jeff Lindsay continues to be extremely predictable. Book 1: Laguerta, Book 2: Doakes, Book 3: Cody + Aster, Book 4: Deb. I am getting bored of major characters being in trouble to result in a climax at the end

Murder mystery with Dexter playing detective's assistant with Deb. Book 1: Bloodless bodies, Book 2: Surgical Dismemberment, Book 3: Burnt Bodies, missing heads. I worry that author is used to ending his stories in tragedy. If another cop gets in trouble in this book, the score will plummet. Dexter's typical dark sarcasm isn't here and is replaced with cheap quirky responses. So far, I'm not impressed.

Sarcastic, playful, more character development with Rita and Deb. This story is different in that Dexter doesn’t kill. He is a silent predator, docile, while being stalked. Previously mentioned character, Albert Doakes has bigger role.

My personal problem is that it seems like it’s cop problem after cop problem with these books.
Hopefully, book 3 changes the pattern

I may be biased from watching the show prior to reading this book, but I am very impressed with it so far. The overall tone stays true to both Dexter‘s psychology as well as has the same sadistic mentality that most killers have. Lots happening and stays interesting.

Writing style in this book supersedes its predecessor Red Dragon. Mystery is fast paced, Hannibal serves a much more important purpose, and though the suspense was lacking, the grim nature of this was much more satisfying. In Laymans terms, Red Dragon: simple, stressful, effed up, Silence of the Lambs: balanced, perpetual, and fun to read.

Deeply emotional storytelling. I’m moved, frustrated, understanding, and deeply committed to Iggy’s relationships. His family, friends, and love life are destroyed; left with himself alone with no one. Futures of everyone hating him, but deeply loving as a man, is hard. I love this book so far and I’m halfway through. Chapter 20 and 21 are heartbreaking..

So far this book hasn’t been expected. I simply believed that this was a murder mystery.

This feels more like a cross between 2005’s Constantine and a filler episode of a crime show. This story includes magic, fantasy based creatures, and a modern world where magic use is agreeable in private practice.

This is extremely simple. Like reading a Neal Stevenson book, it feels like you can read this at any age

Extremely Dark. It feels like a cross between The Road and Beowulf but written my Stephen King.

Mysterious, haunting, and characters that are flawed with depth that can be easily overlooked

We follow Roland’s journey through the path laid out for him by the man in black. From dusty Wild West to modern times, we follow his confused journey through the unknowns of modern culture and language. Eddie, a junkie is a nice new character. However Odetta Walker, a troubled character with split personalities has excruciatingly bad dialogue. It’s very difficult to get through…

Drama… Lots of drama. Consequences forcing commitment by Jake Epping. I’m very fond of where this is going.

Saddened by the passing of Vince Knowles, terrified of Lee, John, the killing of Frank.

Emotionally invested in the relationship between Jake and Sadie despite how strange it is.

Too many thoughts and emotions so far.

So far I’m highly interested. Such specific rules in time travel, and enough drama to not get bored of the ultimate mission to save Kennedy

PKD never ceases to impress me with his creative ability to make something interesting and scary at the same time. Post H-Bomb, humanity is mutated and semi-useless. This leaves the unwanted phocomelus into an extremely useful but dangerous utility. human or not, it can’t be trusted and humanity has to move on

Charming. Format is something to get used to, but not inappropriate considering that this novel creates a much more real feeling person. Aging protagonist in her 70, memories in the past, adult life of someone alone, and menacing letters from those around her. Simple and engaging.

Tiya’s character development has changed tenfold, as it shows that she has a deep caring heart and responds seriously to though she cares about such as Teo. The book has its flaws though its plot and climax are worth the time.

Challenges in internally, new characters introducing new problems for Teo, I have understood after deeper reading that this is a separate world in the real world. Want a fan of technology being mentioned, though I understand now. Chaotic Jungle scene was crazy and very enjoyable

Artistic concept with characters with enough personality to keep dialogue sound realistic. Impressed with the world, though world building is not exciting. Trials have started, and tasks are difficult Teo creates an upheaval in its challenge.

Complete change of pace. The choice to have the reader in the perspective of Klara the AF shadowing the relationships and life of a young woman, Josie. Her voice is unheard but her observations and learning become the centre plot of her story. Humans in this are in an interconnected group of prestige and surface level personalities, while the AF is the most appreciative of life and emotion.
