4: The Part About the Crimes can be hard to read. Violent and misogynistic, of course, but even beyond the countless, horrific rapes and murders. Page 401 incited an interesting revelation for me. An officer had referred to there being a "party" in the cells, and I was inclined to think this included the mass of people brought in from the club.

So when i continued on and read that the officers were "raping the whores" I was at first confused and quickly realized what was actually going on. I continued reading but later in the shower I thought more about how men view sex workers. While I have a negative opinion of the sex work industry and view it as misogynistic and exploitative, completely preying on poor and vulnerable women who are then subjected to violence and mistreatment and selling their body only resulting in harm to themselves, I view sex workers as people who obviously have a right to consent. This short quote made me realize how many men must see sex workers as not having that right--as objects that are for sex whenever they want. That there is nothing wrong with raping them. That rape does not exist in that context. This developed my understanding of the Madonna-Whore complex as well, and even might explain the actions of the absurd amount of men who lie about their intentions and lead women on just to sleep with them and then disappear--or drag the lies along just for sex. They dont view women that they see as sex as anything more. They lie and demean them because they dont value women as human beings. I havent researched any of this but Id like to connect my thoughts to psychology and feminist studies and develop a deeper understanding of this issue
