Huh. I just finished the essay, "My Year of Not Shopping" and have never found a piece of writing so simultaneously relatable and unrelatable.
I hate shopping. Have always hated shopping. Especially for the things Patchett describes (clothes, shoes, purses and jewelry). So I cannot relate to this idea of "giving up" shopping.
But, I also understand her revelations, because they are my every day.

Okay. Yes. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of these so far, and the first one—about her fathers?—actually made me tear up!
Patchett's prose is warm and friendly, and then casually deeps into something breathtaking. I really admire that.

Well, I already liked the introduction more than I've liked the novels of hers I've read. Maybe nonfiction is where Patchett and I can peacefully co-exist.
