“but there, they had their wagon, their boundary against the world” and what is it about boundaries and protection? the trail was a boundary for the wilderness against the impacts of humanity. sibling dex has been breaking boundaries throughout their journey, uncomfortable and even damaging at first, but it has always ended well, and maybe that is commentary on how perception changes once one steps outside.

we are smarter than our remnants if we choose to be. if we choose to look past our primal instincts and hardwire to seek solely the basic necessities. that’s what makes us different from elk. that’s what allows us to see the beauty in the world, gives us the capacity to comprehend on a level closer to the world around us.
