Ending off Ha’s story with her and her family living their lives free of financial, career, and personal instability was a genius choice of the author.

Will DEFINITELY read more of her books, and maybe grow a deeper appreciation for those who lived through the Vietnam War, from refugees to immigrants living free :)

I love Thanna Lai’s wordplay! It inspires me to spice up my own poetry writing

“Inconveniences at your feet do not matter, Mother advises, lengthen your gaze toward where land meets clouds. I ache to know how much longer until clouds touch us, ending refugee living.”


It’s was kinda hard to understand the cultural references in this book since I’m not Vietnamese, but I do appreciate the author’s integration of it nonetheless!
