"Evander, an Arcadian, ... had introduced an annual festival in which young men ran about naked for sport and wantonness." Good times. Anyway, I bailed on this awhile back and have to start over. I am reading an older translation, by Roberts, which I prefer for its elegant 19th century style. Not the same as the Penguin shown, but the Penguin cover is better.

Well, I guess I'll have to break down and purchase it then! I gave up an old ratty copy awhile back, so I'll buy it new.
Every time I hear about Livy's early Rome, I'm reminded that history is often much stranger than fiction. An annual festival of young men running around naked was not the detail I expected to encounter this morning!
