"Pain, that was not yet the pain of love, fretted his heart."

--I love this beautiful line from Ulysses, and I just used it as a quote in the journal I'm working on, inspired by the books I mentioned in my last update. Maybe at some point, I'll put some posts on my blog with images of my journals. I do have a page on my blog (see above in my profile here) with a bunch of images of my visual art....

The content in the beginning is actually quite sad, pertaining to Stephen Dedalus...I hadn't remembered that.... That Joyce chose "Ded"alus--was that intentional given the subject matter? Eh, I don't want to overthink this! I was supposed to not do that lol!

"God, these bloody English! Bursting with money and indigestion!"

--I've gotta say, that's funny lol but also terrible because it sounds like a slur. But maybe Joyce idiomatically meant something else from the time he wrote this. Anyway, I think I'll keep reading this, just slowly. It might take me months, but I'll do a bit of reading on it whenever I can. If at any point I decide I can't read anymore, I'll stop.

I'm going to try re-reading Ulysses again, thanks to my Goodreads friend Lena Fischer's insights on reading it. I probably won't make it all the way through the book because it would be too physically exhausting for me, but I will see what happens. I'm curious about how my opinion will probably change, now that I no longer actively have engineering being drilled into my brain in a classroom lol....
