hit my goal for the day. weird book. odd stories about unsettled people having to trudge ahead due to shitty histories, in different imaginations of historical periods (i.e., abraham lincoln and civil war in the 2000s). don’t think i’m going to enjoy this but the short stories are very easy to read

not done reading but i wanted to note: many of these begin with time signifiers (it’s march; id been there three years; a few years ago) and most have some sentence remarking that the character is reflecting on this experience years later. all are reflections too. perhaps it’s a choice but it feels lazy and boring

sure whatever. more stories about unhappy men broken by the trauma of their homes and families thinking about it and doing nothing. which i guess is very accurate. but uninteresting to read. it’s the theme for most of them. the stores without that theme are about men objectifying women. this is not the book for me.

have finished my number for the day, only took an hour. these stories are easy for resd because they’re simple on a bad way. i think today’s story was about leaving home and returning to see the jealousy of those who remain but also the separation caused by your new life. boring
