There’s a lot here that rings true about the parental dynamics

I find it so compelling that Lucy relishes in domesticity. She calls Susannah ‘honey,’ they cook and wash dishes together, they stay home and greet the trick or treaters. It’s so sweet and also shows that the thing she truly resents is the idea of growing up and being domestic with a man, not the domesticity itself.

It really is the label that creates the hate. It’s not female intimacy. Intimacy is expected, encouraged. Even a kiss is viewed as nothing at all. And in some cases, sex between women at a college party can be nothing but drunk fun. But all those same things labeled as gay, then somehow it becomes different. Lucy and Susannah use these paradoxical beliefs to their advantage

I’m kind of pleasantly surprised. There’s not as much torment as I thought there would be. Maybe I’m speaking too soon lol. But when I heard “lesbian lit fic” I kind of expected it would be 90% inner torment, and I even considered that they would never get together at all. So far im glad to see that I was wrong
