You're allowed. You're allowed to like who you want

Ah so many of us never heard that.

Bless the Mays that led us, led each other through that. We didn't have affirmations and therapy and representation. We had guilt, shame, suppression, the closet. God forbid anyone was outed.

I wasn't in it directly, but I heard about it from my friends who all had a Michael or 2, on edge fearing bettayal

I know this is going to hurt me in the best way.

Outside of the surely tragic plot, the characters, setting, background things are so familiar. Not just Arkansas but the queer side. I was in it and adjacent at that age, crushing but not understanding and hearing my gay friend's stories and thoughts

I'm currently living in my childhood home and this is stirring up a lot of nostalgia

I have found so few books about arkansas that really capture what it's like, what the people are like. In just the prolouge I can tell this is one. I'm so excited
