I love Hesse. It doesn't seem to matter what story is being told; his stories are always infused with deep insight and ideas that are as important today as they likely were at the time they were written. 25 pages in, I'm getting the same intellectual sensations as when I read Steppenwolf. The story line and characters are there, but the ideas within the stories are really what draws me into the world inside the book.
