I think as it nears the end it is becoming less unbearable, even she is reflecting on things that are least annoying.

This one was a bearable chapter from the previous ones which were long and full of events I could not bring myself to care about and this girl just being the one chasing after someone she willfully rejected and expecting this person to just stroke her warped ego and tattered sense of self.

These last few chapters have been such a drag. I realise that I enjoyed the book during the years when she was a child. The enjoyment started to wane, then make exit preparations as soon as she was a teen but has now completely left me since she entered adulthood. I no longer even enjoy the parts where the prose is succinct. I'm at that point when I just want to be done with this book.

Beautiful prose even if what is happening in the story annoys me.

This child is starting to annoy me. Perhaps it's because her precocity lead me to expect her to act sensibly, especially as she grew older but it seems she becomes more immature with age. Her attachment to one boy is keeping her out of wilful trouble but not out of reckless behaviour. Also, she has a penchant for flouting the law in the name of having no regrets later in her life due to fear plus zero audacity.

"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"
I think I came across the french version of this idiom
Sometimes I find that I don't care about this MC, but other times I find that I do. I guess that's why I keep reading, because I want to see if at the end I will be in the caring or uncaring phase.

Why is it always my gender doing the most for the other gender, though? Eish. This child risked a lot for a principle (to avoid being like her grandfather and behaving like a child when time to do so had long passed) and she broke the law and was nearly caught to visit Maxime. It cost her a precious memento.
