A chance letter that began years of correspondence… depending on the workings of the post, they wrote to each other more often than the tides and the phases of the moon. Not even the war could halt what had begun between them.

I should have told you, should’ve taught you to steel your heart. Taught you that a letter isn’t always just a letter. Words on the page can drench the soul. If only you knew.

Théo D'Or That makes me wonder what a chance truly means. And how anyone can know whether it's really an opportunity, or just a self-delusion meant to fill a void that only feels like it makes you whole.
Maybe a chance is not about certainty at all, but about choosing to believe
that something magic can grow if we dare to step toward it.

And it also reminds me of our beginning, how a simple famous line from an old noir film opened the path to a correspondence that not even a war could silence it. That - was a chance. And we dared.

Merci, Maria

Bonjour, Théo

I’m really enjoying these letters. Everything begins in such an amusing way. A young American writes to a Scottish poet — just a fan letter. She replies. He writes back. She replies again. Who could possibly resist paper and ink?

Oh, I didn’t tell you: he wasn’t much of a poetry enthusiast, but he adored her book — the one about treading down life’s fears and climbing towards the next summit. She lived on Skye — a Scottish island — and she was afraid of travelling by boat, though thankfully not of books.

The title in Portuguese is Nove mil dias e uma só noite — Nine Thousand Days and a Single Night: a love story set in a time of war, and a secret.

Merci.

Théo D'Or I know how much you're enjoying love letters, Maria. This is the secret power of love, it invites more of itself. This is why one letter of love always bring another. A single letter can create an entire story, and that story exists because someone dared to write the first word. Sometimes is only the decision to be honest, even when honesty feels risky. And truly, what is left if we do not dare ? A life of unopened doors, with an entire universe hidden behind them. The greatest magic is this - behind every small act of daring, an entire universe might begin..

Merci, Maria
