The first few pages were dtamatic and intense. They got me to buy the book. What I’ve been impressed by in the subsequent chapters is the undramatic but undeniable sense of threat. It’s like the itch I get between my shoulder blades when I know I’m being watched or the scent at the edge of a storm.
