Wow, I did not expect that! I thought this character would turn out to be one of the great heroes of this series! Bummer.

“He wished me a Happy Autumn Festival.” Anden stared down at the warm pastry in his hand but did not feel like eating it. [] “And he wanted to make it clear that if I become a Fist in No Peak, the Mountain will make a point of killing me.”

Anden was absent from the narrative for a bit. I am glad he is back, I like him.

Gont Aschentu. The Horn of the Mountain. He is up to something… the plot thickens!

“A man who wears the crown of a king can’t wear the jade of a warrior. Gold and jade, never together. We Green Bones live by aisho. We defend the country from its enemies and the weak from the strong.”

Let‘s see how that goes! I don‘t believe it quite yet. I‘m hoping for Lan to be an honorable man. But perhaps he will do it to save everybody from a worse fate?

I am disappointed that a female author is applying such a heavy male perspective and conservative gender roles. Ayt Mada is an improvement.

I like the intro of the various characters with every new chapter. Hilo is hard to like and Anden is a favourite almost by default. Nicely done, also how it slowly ramps up anticipation and tension.

I finished the first chapter and then read the blurb. So we are in some HongKong-style action movie with gangster families warring with each other over their resource. Ok. Not my usual fare, let’s see how I like it.
