I'm so disappointed, "It wasn't Laurent's fault that all he could feel was fondness for a woman" wasn't code for he was gay and had married and had a child out of a sense of duty...nope he's actually just a misogynist and apparently a known "rake" this whole time...
The author really had a chance to tell a queer found family story but CompHet wins again. I would DNF but want to know if the carousel is haunted or not.
