"Not even halfway and now we've skipped ahead in time twice!

A sad event will happen then you turn a page and it's a hard cut to four years later...

It's giving the life of a Dickens character, but the mc is a not white, girl, orphan

So it's more sad than I expected but still spooky and I can't put it down"

Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
“Being a Humanist means trying to behave decently without expectation of rewards or punishment after you are dead.”
Kurt Vonnegut

Alice Slater
“While I'm in the shop, I dream of all the things I could be doing if I were at home, cleaning my flat, reading the stack of unread books by my bed, cracking on with the poem I'd started back in September, but when my days off come around, I waste them in bed on my phone, scrolling and scrolling and scrolling, and stalking Eli's girlfriend. I'd planned to start writing something that I'd been thinking about for a while, something about my mother, but everything feels soupy, my body a great weight I have to drag around my flat. I never have the energy when I have the time and I never have the time when I have the energy.”
Alice Slater, Death of a Bookseller

Mackenzi Lee
“It's my whole childhood, being sneered at by watery girls for a joke I didn't understand because I was reading books they could never understand”
Mackenzi Lee, The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy

Joe Hill
“How she loved the smell of road: asphalt baking and soft in high July, dirt roads with their dust-and-pollen perfume in June, country lanes spicy with the odor of crushed leaves in sober October, the sand-and-salt smell of the highway, so like an estuary, in February.”
Joe Hill, NOS4A2

Philip Pullman
“If a witch offers you her love, you should take it. If you don't it's your own fault if bad things happen to you...”
Philip Pullman
