With the stories of Regency - especially one involving actors with unique proclivities - the villain isn't just a living person in power, it's also the ideals and the social norms (and of course, the unrest) of the times. All of it culminates to a sequence of events - in books fashioned as romance - that lead to Happy For Now. There may not be peace and joy and freedom, for the cost of being the dissimilar is high.

Never thought I'd try a book from such an unfamiliar era. Especially since my last venture via Austen (Pride and Prejudice) failed due to multitude of reasons.
Yet, it's time to ram the head against the wall again. Perchance it may yet fall.
