Maisie is having a rough time with her mother. Going to visit Aunt Gertie in a place that’s rough and just not very pleasant but she notices the rust. Unpaved roads, grief metaphor but it’s truly rough too. Grief… why? Her mother’s goals not aligning with her? A lot of questions that need answering but the ambience/vibe is set for sure.

The duality of tragedy. The love Maisie’s mom has for her and her father and how priorities have shifted. I am truly happy she got a letter from her mama highlighting the air of change, of suddenness, of fleshing out the emotional state and weight of the situation and story so far. Maisie reads the letter & assures herself this proves how set aside & left out. When you need someone the most & cannot. Exact feeling.

I’m confused on what Maisie’s mom’s motives are. However, the feeling of home, of tradition. Of helping each other with preparing food. It feels the southern hospitality and there is a quiet warmth that fills me up. The atmosphere of hurt and broken hearts fills it. Maisie’s mom leaving abruptly without goodbye. The cycle remains open. I love the relationship with Aunt Gertie. How fast the night changes

Maisie sees the place of Aunt Gertie hold a vibrant story & memories of her dad. She is wanting to absorb the memories that Aunt Gertie holds her of father. That’s such a relatable thing I often do. In spite of the pain of loss maybe town of Heaven could help. Very succinct.
