I got so into this book, I forgot to eat my dessert lol! I won't be updating so much anymore. I was just trying to give people an idea of what's going on with this book.

I've been reading this so avidly, I keep letting my Kindle run down too far, wasting energy, which I hate to irresponsibly do. I need to be more careful. I just didn't want it to go to sleep so I can quickly pick up the story whenever I get a chance. I said in the body of my review that this book is reminiscent of Judge Judy episodes. But it's actually too sad a story--like if Shakespeare wrote a 48 Hours episode.

Damn, how terribly sad for the young man.... The writing in this book is excellent. I'm kind of disgusted with myself that I didn't read it sooner....

Re to the sentence that starts w/“He must be contented” --That's right: he's no stud anymore if women his age R no studdesses anymore. If women at 55 R too old, then so R men. So tired of double standard. It's BS. We ALL get old. It sux but is life. My husband & I are same age & he hates his age a bit more than I hate mine; he gets so down about it. I tell him stop calling himself old coz then he's calling ME old lol

At least she has a brain and tells him she’s just desperate and poor. I'm kind of shocked to read that kind of honesty in such an old book! No wonder it was scandalous.

The visual imagery in this is so beautifully done--you can tell how much care went into writing that. I'll put more quotes in my review. The male-advantage age difference between wife & husband's typical of patriarchal nonsense & something I can't stand; I gear my writing toward the exact opposite. Women often were & still are subjected to that sexist crap. But at least the husband in this knows he's no sex symbol.

"A glorious old place. A place that visitors fell in raptures with"
--My kind of place.
My kindle copy conked out in the middle of reading before lol. But I just re-downloaded it from the cloud or the moon--wherever these files come from now lol.

And though I should know better, I sometimes forget how much people actually knew about life and the universe years ago--but I also often think they knew MORE than we do now.
IMO, we've lost quite a lot over time--including some of our abilities to brain-wise see, because we've relied on technology too much, like with this thing I'm typing on now lol--and maybe some abilities we had decades, hundreds of years ago, have atrophied. People used to do physics, map the stars, build immense structures, theorize about "the atom" and atomic structures--without all of our modern apparatuses. And people were quite-often accurate back then!!
I also sometimes wonder if ancient people had a lot more inventions--more advanced ones--that we now don't know about. Times would quickly get turbulent--the "enemy" would ransack the places of the rich and powerful--maybe the ransackers didn't realize they were ransack-destroying secret technologies because they had never seen such things before; so they were swept into the earth, never to be recorded in history. I guess we'll never know....
