So far, I’ve only read the intro, the preface and the first chapter—I’m beyond hooked. Fromm’s first language isn’t English yet his mastery of English writing is adjacent to poetry. I’m entranced.

I skipped a few pages, the last some pages on the section about “god”. Fromm cannot be analyzing God as The One True God because Fromm is not a credible source on God. Social scientists study society. It’s more appropriate that he discuss the functions of a belief in God for any given society instead of Who God actually is, since he does know God for himself.

I’ve paused on the part regarding self-love. I just feel Fromm is going to destroy whatever understanding of it I previously had. He’s perfectly put into words a lot of my floating thoughts. What a mind.

This is not a book I can just speed read. It’s more of an academic text. It’s well written to the point that I genuinely feel Fromm is speaking to me, the individual.
