The amount of self-loathing we're wallowing in here is depressing as anything. While it may be universal for the female experience to involve feeling trapped in cultural expectations, how about exploring that via speaking to a sympathetic friend of her own heritage (step one: consider making a friend)? Apparently the white, American, safely gay, bestie is a better mirror to her soul?

SIGH. Angst in the suburbs is my least fave genre, and right out of the gate we have bickering with the in-laws, feeling trapped with marriage and children, an unfulfilling career where nobody cares about what you do, and unrecognized depression. Sad that these are universal heartaches, but I'm disinclined to delve into them regardless of the MC's cultural origins.
