Adam What’s this book about, and what is your impression of Hegel so far?

Joshua The book is an introduction preceding his lectures on history, and he is setting up a system to examine history. First, he distinguished between original history, reflective history, and philosophic history. After that he discusses the Reason inherent to reality, or nous, and how that dictates the world, in relation to divine providence. Now he is beginning to define his “Spirit” which moves throughout history.
My impression is basic so far (this is a short work so 20% isn’t much), is that he’s got a unique way of viewing things and I’m hoping I can follow along with his reasoning to see how useful it is when applied to history. I might use this to go into some of his other works, specifically the lectures, or just keep these ideas as I move forwards, as Hegelian thought even influenced people like Marx.

Joshua One of the popular reviews, by a user named Felix, explains it well. I wasn’t gonna start on Hegel since he’s notoriously difficult but this text specifically is more accessible.
