Question for romance readers:

Do you like when characters in romance are celebrities? Such as actors, singers, influencers, etc..

I usually enjoy the celebrity trope but I’m kind of so so about it lately. But it seems like a lot of people don’t like that. Curious why or why not. Comment below.

Sarah Mac I’m def not into the influencers. Influencer culture as a whole turns me off—it’s vapid & surface-focused, the product of a generation that’s become overly engrained with social media. (And by generation I don’t mean Gen Z specifically, but an addicted population in general that’s been gorging on socials for 10+ years.)

I don’t love celeb characters in general, either, but that’s more because I find it dull. I never watch those Actor’s Studio type things; hearing about their lives, their ‘craft’ & their personal processes does nothing for me, lol.

Sarah Mac Definitely. It’s one thing to post pictures of your dog or silly selfies from a filming or music tour—that stuff I’m fine with—but vanity/promotional/self-congratulatory content is just annoying. Like going on those Late Night interview shows & babbling lame banter with equally lame hosts…what’s the point? 🫣
