Spoilers in comments. This was a very cute book, and it really did have some very important topics and beautifully written parts, particularly as it pertain to Stevens illness. I thought the book drowned on too long, and had too many characters, but that seems to be common for the author. Overall was a cute book and would recommend for a low intensity murder mystery.

Lena Basically, the mystery portion of this book is surrounding the fact that a bunch of heroin suppliers were trying to bring a clay box full of heroin in through customs into England so that they could sell it. It was the first time trying to do that. They then would sell the clay box to a man named Kurdesh, who is a friend of Stevens, Elizabeth’s husband. Unfortunately, Kuldesh ends up being killed. The Thursday murder club end up, trying to solve his murder, as well as figure out what happened to the box filled with heroin.

Lena This was a very cute book and involved many different characters and players, including drug dealers and fake art dealers, etc. It turns out that when he received the box Kuldesh buried it in the area where the senior citizens lived because he knew the value of the clay box itself. It turns out that the box was super ancient and came from Iraq. The box was worth millions of dollars, but the heroin was only worth $100,000.

Lena It turns out that when he discovered the value of the box, he informed his friend Nina who deals drug drugs. She ended up, killing him in an attempt to take the box.

Lena The Thursday murder club end up discovering that the box was buried on their property and they take it with the intention of eventually giving it back to the police.

Lena An important and very heartbreaking part of this book was listening to the development of Stevens illness. He unfortunately had dementia and was progressively forgetting more and more things. We find out during this book that he and Elizabeth decide that he is going to proceed with assisted suicide. So one of Elizabeth’s old friends gave him a medication which he would take which will allow him to pass. One of the most gutwrenching and heartbreaking and emotional chapters of the book was the chapter after Stephen had ingested those drugs and eventually died. So a very interesting perspective of this book was the one of his suicide, knowing that his disease was only going to get worse. It was very heartbreaking and I cried during that part.

Lena However, the Thursday murder club basically gets the box box so that Elizabeth can put Steven’s ashes in the box. The boxes then brought back to Iraq for the proper authorities to handle it. It also turned out that Nina had killed one of the other characters wife because she knew about the value of that box.
