Idk man I think maybe treating traditional sustinance hunting like it's the biggest conservation issue amazonian manatees face isn't Great

I don't know man I just feel uncomfortable with the sort of judgemental tone aimed at this group of indigenous people for hunting a singular manatee when ONE GUY in the village even owns a cell phone

You could've made your characters NOT indigenous and made the same critique is the thing

Yeah so these are indigenous people who are traditional spearfishers and who are using the singular Manatee they caught for sustinance for the entire village

Which makes the critique here from a white woman feel a little problematic

Like you can critique modern net fishing and you can critique deliberately seeking out manatees to hunt but that's not what happened

Also I'm surprised this takes place in the Amazon given the Manatee on the cover appears to be Trichechus manatus and not Trichechus inunguis

Look man I love a Manatee but I don't know how proper it is to criticize traditional spearfishers who live in small amazonian villages for hunting them when we could criticize like the floridian boating industry
