Why do I feel like everything and nothing have both happened in this book so far

What they just did to Ben...that was awful. They shouldn't have done that. I don't understand how anyone feels they have the right to execute such judgement on another human being that clearly had something wrong with his head. If I was Thomas, I would feel so guilty.

I always forget that a book written by a man with male characters must come with the caveat of being boyish.
