I started this book probably more than 50 years ago, when I was more the "proper" age for it, but I quickly abandoned it. Oddly, I like it much better now.

The youngest girl in Swallows and Amazons loves being left alone on an island, just like Robinson Crusoe. "[W]ho would wave a flag to be rescued if they had a desert island of their own? That was the thing that spoilt Robinson Crusoe. In the end he came home. There never ought to be an end." I'm impressed that this child of 9 or 10 had read (or listened to) a book I gave up on years ago but plan to finish this year.
