Sedaris really isn't a man of the people anymore and he's fine with talking about it. The essay about spending tens of thousands of dollars on designer clothes during his seventh vacation on Tokyo is not more relatable because he makes sure we know the clothes are ugly. The beach house, the ex-pat lifestyle in England, Sedaris and his family are constantly on vacation and it's not a charming read in 2026.
