The #1 thing that I've been struck by is how similarly the public reacted then to true crime & its sensationalism as they do today on platforms like TikTok instead of formal news sources). The outrageously irrational responses to extraordinarily unlikely scenarios, the playing up of things that haven't ever actually happened, & the popularization of crime fiction playing into irrational concerns is still prevalent.
