The oldest of the boys, Big Joe, went missing. They looked for him everywhere. They had now clue where he was, a were worried something had happened to him. However, they finally found him, in the church tower. The whole town came out to see him, and everyone was happy.

The two brothers went off to the war. During one of the attacks Charlie, the older one, and his company were in a dug out in no-man's-land. Tommo, the younger brother, was badly injured. The commanding officer told everyone that they were leaving the dug out, and were going to charge into the German's trench. Charlie would not leave Tommo. So, the officer got Charlie shot in a firing squad for not following orders.
