His parents…..went out with a bang. The council of scientists believed him. They informed z that the initial mission was actually a nuke and not a probe to learn more. Every time they escalated it because we did first. Admiral Vance was eves dropping in the conversation but so was lex and some of the others. They lock down their drvices from eves dropping thanks to lex and head to star base ace.

Z drives to his friends house to get their opining on his dads theory which they kindof buy. Thanks to lex he has his dad’s contacts and calls the ceo of the game company lifting his contacts. Then he calls the defences counsel of scientists head by Stephen hawking and Neil degrasse tyson who are shocked by the theory and evidence but put him on hold.

His friends are super jealous that he was drafted

It launches, the moon crew are on there own, two of them are taken out of the fight but not killed, Chen kamikaze bombs the disruptor and X follows suit. The shield stayed down for longer then it should fitter proving the point of X and they managed to take it down. Z flies X back home destroying the school gym to park the drone (thankfully nobody was hiding in there) and drives home. Mom and dad (+ dog) reunite

The moon base seemed totally pointless. It was not really a tactical defense post other than deferring the yearly attacks from the earth to the moon but that doesn’t even make sense (they even mentioned it in the book)

Anyways back on earth the war is not going well at all. The big emp style ship is about to attack but it waits for the moon crew to arrive (again called out as weird by z)

The defense of the moon base was a disaster. They were Immediately beaten. Shin and Milo sacrificed themselves to allow the others time to escape on an underground pod. The was attacked right away by a praying mantis looking robot. Lex who had defied orders to wait around for them saved the day in the Knick if time but not before grant was killed. They left the moon and went back to earth.

Z calls his mom and reveals his dad is alive, they cry it out. Z calls lex and she hacks into his rig. She’s a little bit unbelievable as a character but people dons cry weird in stressful situations
Z gives his dad his patch jacket. The two have been on weird terms so far. Z isn’t ready to accept his dad willfully abandoned him conflicted with thinking it might have been right. his dad is mad anxious

He promised to do something that will seem weird and what Ted someone to get a glimpse into why he would
Do it.
Returning to the main base he realized everyone skunked off together “to go out with a bang” but they reunite to watch the American president reveal give a state of the union. The EDA carefully orchestrated the news afterwards to show people fighting and not rioting

He reveals that he hacked into the Armand’s founders private folders when he was consulting on the game design and discovered. That ahead of each raid over the past 40 ish years the Europeans sent a package of earths’s war films snipped together with the 5 note tune from close encounters of a third kind where humans boarded the alien ship at the end of

More proof they are testing them in some way

Z goes to X’s room and they scoot away to an abandoned part of the base that has no monitoring equipment and X shares his real beliefs. Everything is too easy, why not attack right away, why are some ships armored and near impossible to take down while others are flimsy. How did he manage to destroy one of them with the most improbable timing.
He thinks it’s all a test

The moon baser lifers tell there there’s on what’s really happening. They call attention to the same inconsistency in logic that Z has been noticing this while time. X refuses to say his theory in front of everyone. Z gets mad and storms off to look at the flash drive filled with letters his dad gave him. Reading over a few he gets more of the backstory he has been missing as well as a cryptic video
