Again, this is an excellent book in general, and particularly when you want to be distracted. I was surprised to discover through a bit of outside research that camels really can eat fish - I had thought that was part of Aiken's fantasy.

I'm so glad I picked this book up again after reading it once or twice decades ago. Despite, or maybe because of, young Owen's awful troubles, it's very soothing, which I have needed. I love how he's able to solve all kinds of problems with knowledge from his little book and from his childhood on shipboard. I wish this weren't the only book about him and his friend Arabis.
