What a strange push and pull, we the readers dont know more about irimias than the townpeople. Also this doesnt feel like the last 40 pages of a novel at all ..

Its picking up, i liked the speech chapter

The quotes strike me more and more often as a little bit insecure, like he wants to take himself out of any judging.. but ofc its him so oder so.. also reading the power plays, psychologies and activities of the characters through the lens of liberal criticism of ussr is flattening the whole text so i try to not do it

Just like the praise i heard, the characters in this are amazing. This thing he does where he is quoting the characters in his prose, like a cheeky journalist is super fun and engaging to read and also a dance of perspectives mid-sentence.

Really good first chapter :))
