relationship. If there’s no time, we make time.” I’m startled to hear my
voice crack. “Hockey doesn’t fucking matter. School, work. None of it
matters if you and I are struggling, if we aren’t connecting.”

“No, as in I’m not cutting off a piece of your sweet ass and consuming it,” he clarifies. “I’d rather we just die in each other’s arms, old-people-in-Titanic style.”

It could be. And if that happens, there’s a
good chance we’ll die from starvation or exposure. And unless we decide
on a synchronized murder/suicide, obviously, one of us will die before the
other. So if that happens, we need to make a pact.”

“Do you think they’re ever going to show up?” I ask as I press my nose
to the cold window. Beyond the pane, the world is an endless swirl of snow.
“They said six hours,” he reminds me. “It hasn’t been six hours yet.”
“It’s been five and a half.”
“Five and a half isn’t six.”
“But why aren’t they here yet?” I whine.
“Because it hasn’t been six hours!”
“Stop saying that!”

But somehow it went from a movie night to a make-out session. My
hand down her pants and her hand down mine.

Fuck, that was such a good night. When I’d mistakenly knocked on that
door, I never in a million years thought I’d fall in love with the girl behind
it. Or that we’d be sharing an apartment, a bed. Building a life together

I think about the first time Grace and I kissed. I’d accidentally shown up at her dorm room, thinking it was my buddy’s. Instead, I found a freshman watching Die Hard movies and eating candy. I joined her because, why not? She was cute, and I was bored. But somehow it went from a movie night to a make-out session.

away, though. She teases me too, while her hot gaze roams the length of my
body. Then she slants her head and asks, “What would your girlfriend say
about that?”
I give her a dirty smile. “She’d say…hurry, John, I need to come.”
Grace moans again.

The cocky grin is just spreading across my face when she grabs the back
