Fun fact: whenever I feel confident I can keep track of the supporting cast, they are all killed in a fire and replaced. Even the MC is like “Again!?! why does everyone I care about keep dying in fires?”

I’ve been swindled, boondoggled, and ultimately betrayed by the promise from book club that this is a romance (and we don’t do dark romances or traumatic stories), but it opens with a CW that it has period accurate graphic rape and murder. May not finish this one.

The discord isn’t thrilled! It really seems like the editing or marketing dropped the ball on this between the pacing and how it’s described vs what’s actually happening
