obviously this is so well written, but same as with the first book, it's just much more grim than any installment of the expanse. it's not grimdark, there's very little violence, but living under prison camp conditions and playing a long game of survival resistance is a hard point of view to be in.

I'm trying not to read your updates for this series because I VERY MUCH want to read it, but I'm scared. I LOVE The Expanse series, and what if my brain can't hold two series?? WHAT IF IT BREAKS ME?? Probably worth it.

it's VERY different from the expanse-- i feel you on the anxiety, i had been lowkey expecting the expanse v2 and it's not even remotely close. smaller cast, many kinds of aliens, lots more deaths. the only way it's like the expanse is that i have no fucking idea where it's going at any point, lol.
Becky wrote: "Oh that’s actually great to know! I was worried they’d be too similar and then I’d confuse them."oh no, no chance of that! i just finished it and really liked it, more than the first installment, so definitely check it out. :)
I will! I hate waiting for series installments, but JSAC is no GRRM. So I know the next book won't take *checks calendar* FIFTEEN YEARS AND COUNTING.
that's why i didn't start reading the expanse until after the third one released, lmao. never again.
I read Leviathan Wakes when it came out... but that was 2011 (IIRC) and before we all endured the series continuation/conclusion drought that would befall us. I read Caliban's War and Abaddon's Gate a while later... but I still wasn't invested in the SERIES... still just reading and enjoying them on their own. Then, when the whole thing was basically done, I read 4 and was rehooked and finished them all.
