I know some of these deep sea biology facts are being purposefully misinterpreted for the sake of the narrative, but it's kind of annoying... 1) It's not unusual for life in the deep sea to be scarce 2) Deep sea gigantism compromises the mobility of the creatures affected 3) Deep sea metabolism is always slow, they're mostly slow motion animals. I'm aware I'm no fun at parties...

Berengaria "I'm aware I'm no fun at parties". This is why I avoid novels written about or set in Ancient Egypt. I am so damned picky about authenticity, means I dislike the novels before I even start them and can complain like nobody wants to hear. Totally get it!

Alan (the Lone Librarian) Teder I really loved this book but I'll admit I was drawn in by the allusions to Lovecraft's deep ones, the metamorphosis, the Johnny Depp movie-tie-in etc. ie. the biology facts went right over my head. I hope you still enjoy it by the end!

I totally get this! Usually I'm chill about bending science to its limits, I read comic books too after all, it depends on the book, the intention. But when I have a biologist character saying something a serious biologist would not I get a little upset! I'm glad it's not that common... but being a History buff must be tough, there's so much historical fiction and distortions of ancient Egypt, some famous one too. We're allowed to be nerdy.

She is a good writer and she's done a good research, some little details about how Leah perceive some things bug me, but I'm aware the book is not really about deep sea biology so I'm being able to still enjoy it. But something I'm completely not aware is the Johnny Depp you mentioned? What's his connection to this book? O>O
